abstractLaser-driven plasmas play a key role in such diverse fields as astrophysics, cancer therapy and fusion. At HZDR Dresden we focus on laser-driven particle acceleration for cancer therapy and all-optical X-Ray and Gamma Ray sources. Such applications require to understand and control the laser-driven plasma on the scale of femtoseconds and nanometer. For this we have created a new research program to image high energy density plasmas with X-Ray free electron lasers. Starting from high performance computer simulations on GPUs we show how techniques such as X-Ray small angle scattering enable us to study ultra-fast, non-equilibrium plasmas at solid density.
